Connecticut State Police say it all began when a gray Subaru Crosstrek, reported stolen earlier that day, was seen weaving dangerously through traffic on Main Street in Killingly on Saturday afternoon, March 8. Witnesses said the driver nearly caused several accidents before slamming into another car at Westcott Road. But instead of stopping, the Subaru sped off.

It wasn’t long before the same vehicle was found smashed against a tree on Hartford Pike. Three teenagers were seen bolting from the crash site and disappearing into the nearby woods, authorities said.

That’s when K9 Boss and his handler got to work. The police dog locked onto the suspects' scent and tracked them roughly 500 yards through thick terrain. Moments later, another responding trooper spotted the trio and took them into custody.

The suspects — identified only as juveniles — refused to cooperate with the investigation. However, police determined that one of them had been behind the wheel and hit him with several charges, including operating without a license, unsafe passing, and evading responsibility, police said.

All three juveniles were also charged with second-degree larceny, criminal mischief, interfering with an officer, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage. One of them is also facing drug-related charges, police said.

After processing, the teens were released to their parents.
